The MCGP major initiatives will be:
Junior Golf Coaching - the
Junior Golf Coaching grant (£150 per club) will continue to be
administered by EGU/EWGA to clubs within Middlesex during 2008. The
MCGP will, however, promote this widely to all clubs through its
website.
Middlesex-wide
Golf Taster Sessions - in 2008,
golf taster sessions - and the associated EGU grant (£200) -
will also be administered by the EGU/EWGA.
Country-wide, EGU
returns show that over 80% of people attending these sessions went
on to buy further lessons from a PGA pro. In 2008, the plan aims to
have at least 10 Middlesex clubs involved in this scheme. Again, it
will be promoted through the MCGP Golf Partnership website and will
not necessarily be confined to affiliated clubs - a small number of
Driving Ranges may also be included. Although the aim is to get 10
clubs onto the scheme, there is funding scope for a further 10-15
clubs, if suitably motivated.
PESSCL Projects - (PE
in School-Sports Club Links) the Partnership Steering Group
recognised at an early stage
that it was vital that we get golf
onto the curriculum in many more schools than currently. PESSCL
Projects are funded by the Department of Education and administered
by the Golf Foundation through the numerous specialist Sport
Colleges which now exist in England. Each project gets a grant of
£2,000 and, in 2008, there will be 40 such projects in England.
Negotiations are in hand with the Golf Foundation for at least two
of these projects within Middlesex. When these projects have been
finalised, details will be posted on the website. In practice, the
associated club will introduce golf into the school using either
Tri-Golf or Golf X-treme and then continue with coaching of students
at the club's facilities. This then provides the route for aspiring
young golfers to join a club's junior section and proceed from
there.
GolfMark - the Whole
Sport Plan target is to get 40% of clubs with this accreditation by
2009. Accordingly, the plan focuses on getting Middlesex up to this
level by 2009. To do this, we will be running seminars to help clubs
to 'get up
to speed' using the experiences of clubs who have already achieved
this standard. The importance of this accreditation is shown by the
fact that clubs participating in PESSCL projects must have achieved
this standard or be in the process of obtaining it. From the MCGP
Golf Partnership viewpoint, most projects involving juniors will be
based on clubs who have reached this standard. In addition, from
later this year, Junior GolfMark will be upgraded to GolfMark -
recognised by Sport England. Sport England have already decreed that
any club seeking a grant from (say) a Local Authority should have
this accreditation.
Child
Protection and Equity - a number
of workshops on these topics will be run in the Middlesex area
during the year. It is vital, in the current environment, that all
Junior Organisers should have training in these areas as well as
having CRB (Criminal Record Bureau) clearance.
